We post upon the commencement of Ramadan - and its fast.
Purify. Cleanse. Clear.
Purify. Cleanse. Clear.
Uncle. Not 'Tom' but the idiom crying for mercy. From what (other than the usual, dissOrientin' suspects)? Guilt.
In the holy month, one's thoughts should remain solely with each Guantánamo Bay 'cleared' inmate in the violating moment that a feeding tube breaks an entering into his nostril.
One confesses, however, to thinking as much of this...'our'...sanctioned-cruelty in Cuba, as one's mind wonders the world map to find two, melon-flagged darts of note - India n' Norway.
Both
POTUS (2009) and the EU (2012) bequeathed shout-outs from Oslo upon reception of their
respective awards. Mahatma Gandhi, however, never knew the honor bestowed by a
Noble Peace Prize. In wrecktrospect, such is roundly considered one of the Nobel committee's most egregious errors. Egregious is one element; repetitive is quite another. Gandhi was nominated in 1937...'38...'39...'47...and posthumously in 1948. All nods to no avail. In defense of the committee, perhaps they were attempting to emulate the number of times that Gandhi fasted as his form of social revolution.
We can appreciate the removal of watermelon seeds prior to ingestion. However, the extraction of teeth from the bite of Protest renders moot the epitomes act of humanity's autonomy. A hunger strike used to be a verifiable, non-violent act. Forced feeding by the captor shifts the most respectable Act of Resistance into the realm of policy incongruent with Alfred Nobel's vision.
Then again, perhaps this current human anti-right is keepin' it H2Omeloncholic™ real. In the words of Gandhi:
"It is better to be violent, if there is violence in our hearts, than to put on the cloak of non-violence to cover impotence."

Concluding now, not with a thought but a few questions. Really tho'? Just one query - reiterated. Gentlesoulfolk, one begs your ponderance:
What would have been the fate of India - and hence the world - had the British, nightly, accosted Ghandi with the requisite 'nourishment' to render his hunger strike null and void?
My good peops, are we POST-Act of Resistance?
If answered in the affirmative, what does that mean for us all, in epic - albeit invisible - cultural moments? The Oppressed may be left with this lone hope - the right to deny oneself the barest essential to life. Who we be, homez, and where are we headed when that core choice, the very bent of bravery, can be - like another 'mass' opiate - snorted away?
a clever as compassionate critique
on the implausibility of
POSTness
Til our next 'post', feast upon produce in season...
