dissOrientalism?

Albeit Edward Said can break it down so much betta, Orientalism is generally subscribed to some Western patronization of Eastern arts and culture wherein a complex, even sacred aesthetic is less acknowledged for its evolution and more so essentialized down to elements dismissed as replicable and thus out of their original/authentic context.  Works here too.  Cool.  After all, what is more disorienting than H2Omeloncholy?  Seems to cock the head to the side, encourage a certain squint, and leaves one's napps askew.  More than they already are.  Just the nature of angst...one supposes.

Katherine Behar and Marianne M. Kim also break it down on their terms:

If this blog's 'diss' - with additional 's' - requires clarity, please see Urban Dictionary.

(WARNING: if the term, "diss" qualifies as an utter foreign tongue to your eye/ear, this blog may not be your milieu.)

funk of fonts?
Ain't exactly Edward-ian, after all.  That's expert, Edward Said, not 'post'-Edwardian as in one's preferred fashion era.  Consequently, with Orientalism - or one's inadequate version - explained as best one dares, let us delve into the font selection.  Diggin' the tension betwixt something as allegedly benign as a tech font and sum'in as referentially juicy as dissOrientalsim.  From web surveillance to the digital divide, perhaps dissOrientalism does not take precedence.  Visually, the 'computerized' font, SynchroLet and culturally-appropriated font, Orient1Normal repazent incongruity.  As they should n' so much the betta.

image breakdown?
The template, compliments of Blogger.com and Awesome Inc., struck one as part Van Goh-ian watercolor skies of Charles Schulz' televised PEANUTS specials and part stain from a splat of watermelon.  Kinda chose itself.

Closet and Commerce.  And as performance art?  Why not?

Our revolving Closet and conflicted Commerce.  Um-hum.  Could switch out 'wardrobe' for closet.  Maybe one should.  Albeit 'closet', thanks to queer theory, is too juicy not to incorporate in a blog dissecting inconsistency of identity.

Ergo, the pair of Vicini stilettos, a brand of Italian designer, Guiseppe Zannoti, was a tickle of an ebay find.  The colors evoked the watermelon rind and set one on a journey to find watermelon flesh ribbon.  Not sure how much the search qualifies as journey.  One's immediate suspicion that the pioneering craft site, ETSY, would oblige was confirmed in two clicks of a lamb's tablet.  Two minutes to find and purchase; two days to arrive.  With old stock ribbon in hand, one tied the seeds traditionally - bandanna style with knot as crown upon many the Mammy.  Sentimentality of my mother's brooch and scarf aid all too well in further deconstructing the watermelon fruit.  The brooch of simulated peridot and emeralds is interlocking.  Meanwhile, the scarf's linear lines, in varied shades of green, place the stripes of the watermelon rind in the realm of accessory glory.  Ah, the edible aesthetic!

What happens, gentlesoulfolk, when the pejorative exudes elegance?
